Ingrid Tatiana Alvira Trujillo: MuJeR from La Plata, Colombia

Ingrid Tatiana Alvira Trujillo is a participant of the MuJeR project, an initiative that aims to empower young rural women through financial inclusion. She is from the municipality of Acevedo, in rural Colombia. She was raised in a very conservative home with limitations for being a woman. Due to this type of upbringing, when she became pregnant at 18 years old, she believed she was stuck and would not be able to continue studying. She had to postpone her goals and dedicate herself to raising her daughter without support from the father.
When she was selected for the MuJeR project as a leader, it generated a lot of changes in her life. She needed to break the stereotypes in her family that told her that she would not be able to progress without a man by her side. The workshop empowered her and allowed her to strengthen her leadership skills.
It also gave her the tools to improve her life project. She decided to improve her horticulture business and study tailoring at SENA (Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje — National Service for Learning), an activity which she had always enjoyed. Additionally, as she observed that many young women in her area, including her sister, lived in the same circumstances, she not only decided to help them open savings accounts, but also replicated the training she had received in the workshops. Nowadays, Ingrid has opened a clothes shop and tailors with her aunt, where she has applied her knowledge in money management which she learnt in the workshops, and has perfected her tailor and repair skills. Her dreams don't end there — she wants to get her high-school degree and study Agronomy.

Ingrid Tatiana Alvira Trujillo es una participante del proyecto MuJeR, una iniciativa que busca empoderar a las mujeres jóvenes rurales a través de la inclusión financiera. Ella vive en la vereda El Bosque del municipio de La Plata, una zona rural en Colombia. Creció en un hogar muy conservador con limitaciones impuestas por ser mujer. Debido a ese tipo de crianza, cuando a los 18 años quedó embarazada, pensó que quedaría estancada y que no podría continuar estudiando. Debió aplazar sus metas para dedicarse a la crianza de su hija, sin el apoyo del padre.
Cuando fue seleccionada para el proyecto MuJeR como lideresa, ésto generó muchos cambios en su vida. Necesitaba romper estereotipos en su familia que le indicaban que sin un hombre a su lado no podría salir adelante, y el taller la empoderó y le permitió fortalecer su liderazgo.
También le brindó herramientas para mejorar su proyecto de vida. Decidió mejorar su emprendimiento de horticultura y capacitarse en el SENA en confecciones, una actividad que siempre le había gustado. Además, al ver que en su vereda hay muchas mujeres jóvenes que viven su misma situación, entre esas su hermana, decidió no solo abrirles cuentas de ahorro, sino que también replicar los aprendizajes de los talleres. Hoy en día Ingrid ya ha abierto una tienda de ropa y confecciones junto con su tía, donde ha podido aplicar los conocimientos del manejo del dinero que aprendió en los talleres, y perfeccionarse en confección y arreglo de ropa. Sus sueños no terminan ahí, ella quiere graduarse de bachiller y estudiar Agronomía.
